Waterborne polyurethane (PUD) and waterborne acrylic resin（PA）are two types of waterborne resins commonly used in the coatings, film finishing, and leather industries; they exhibit distinct performance differences and are suited to different applications.

**Waterborne Polyurethane Resin (PUD)**

Featuring a unique block structure comprising soft and hard segments, this resin forms films with excellent elasticity, high extensibility, and outstanding flex and abrasion resistance. It exhibits excellent adhesion to various substrates, including BOPP, BOPET, PVC films, leather, and plastics. The film retains its toughness and resists brittle cracking even at low temperatures, while offering a soft tactile feel.

Standard aromatic PUDs carry a risk of yellowing, while aliphatic PUDs have better resistance to yellowing and weathering, but they are relatively more expensive.

Suitable for: elastic topcoats, flexible film finishes, leather finishes, and products requiring repeated flexing and abrasion resistance.

**Water-based Acrylic Resin(PA)**

Produced through the copolymerization of acrylate monomers, its key advantages include UV resistance, resistance to yellowing, and excellent outdoor weatherability. The resin offers good storage stability, facilitates the production of high-solids formulations, and entails lower raw material costs.

Its drawbacks include limited film elasticity and low elongation, making it prone to brittleness and cracking in low-temperature environments. Compared to water-based polyurethane, standard acrylics offer inferior abrasion resistance and flexibility, and the coating tends to have a dry, less smooth tactile feel.

Suitable for: outdoor topcoats, coatings on rigid substrates, cost-sensitive applications, and scenarios that do not require significant stretching or bending.
